Who are the Quechua Porters

Who are the Quechua Carriers

There are only a few treks in the world where porters carry equipment such as tents, and food. You will only encounter them in The Himalayas, on Kilimanjaro and on the Inca trail. You will only realise how imposible it would have been to complete your trek on the Inca Trail to Machupicchu without the porters once you reach your destination. We whish to thank these amazing people, who help to realize the  dreams of others daily.

THEIR BACKGROUND:

The Quechua people have always been very organized and strong workers. This was the secret of their ancestors  to building a great empire in a very short time. When the Spanish arrived in Peru, the lives of the Quechua people became very hard. the Spanish continous to treat them badly untill 1900s, when the Peruvian government decided to reclaim the land and gave it back to the Quechuas. This allowed them to cultivate corn, potatoes, quinoa, etc. with the same skills their Inca ancestors taught them on the land they were awarded.

The porters and their families are very humble people. Everyone knows each other in their communities and they address one another as uncle, aunt, mother, father, grandma and grand pa, because they consider themselves as one family. They always help each other in building houses and farming their land.

Someone who is knowlegeable about medicine will teart the members of the comunity free of chrage. Someone skilled in biulding houses will advise others free of charge. By applying their knowlege and assisting one another without charming anything, every single one of them contributes to te community.
