The classic four-day Inca Trail typically costs between US$750 and US$1,300 per person, with prices varying based on the tour operator’s quality, inclusions, group size, and service type. This price usually includes the necessary permits, transportation, the guide, porters, camping equipment, and most meals, but excludes personal expenses and the final day’s meals.

a) Operator and Service Quality:

Higher prices often reflect higher-quality services, better treatment of porters, and more gourmet food options. 

b) Group Size:

Private services are more expensive than standard group treks. 

c) Inclusions:

Some tours offer more amenities, such as better mattresses, optional add-ons like the Huayna Picchu ticket, or upgrades to luxury train service. 

d) Third-Party Bookings:

Booking through a third party may increase the price due to added commission fees.

  • Permits: The permit for the Inca Trail and entry to Machu Picchu.
  • Transportation: Bus to the trailhead and train back from Aguas Calientes.
  • Guides and Porters: A bilingual (English/Spanish) guide and porters to carry equipment.
  • Accommodation: Tents for camping during the trek.
  • Food: Three meals a day, though the last day’s meals are often excluded.

What’s Not Included

  • Travel Insurance: It is strongly encouraged to purchase travel insurance before your trip. 
  • Personal Expenses: Any extra money for snacks, drinks, or souvenirs. 
  • Tipping: Tips for the crew (guide, porters, cook) are an additional, though customary, expense.
